Little Sprouts, Big Adventures: Berry Hill's First Grade Takes on Suffolk County Farm!

Little Sprouts, Big Adventures: Berry Hill's First Grade Takes on Suffolk County Farm!

Our Berry Hill first graders traded their backpacks for barnyard fun during an unforgettable field trip to the Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank. From the moment the bus pulled up, the air was filled with excitement (and maybe a little bit of hay!).

The day was packed with furry friends and hands-on learning:

  • The Grand Tour: Students hopped on a tractor-drawn hayride to visit the "big" residents, including horses, cows, llamas, and some very muddy pigs.

  • Feathers and Fur: We explored the pens to meet roosters, peacocks, turkeys, and ducks. The highlight for many was getting up close with the sheep and feeding the goats!

  • Baby Fever: We were lucky enough to visit at the perfect time—the pigs and goats both had adorable babies that stole everyone’s hearts.

  • Green Thumbs: Beyond the animals, our little farmers learned the science of compost and the magic of life cycles. Each student planted their own seeds to take home.

Keep an eye out for those little green sprouts coming home! We can’t wait to see how our first graders—and their new plants—continue to grow.
