Leading with Love: 5th Grade PALs Spread Kindness Across Berry Hill

Leading with Love: 5th Grade PALs Spread Kindness Across Berry Hill

Small Acts, Big Impact! Our 5th grade "Peers as Leaders" (PALs) took center stage this quarter, stepping into the role of teachers to inspire our younger students. With a mission to foster empathy and celebrate individuality, these student leaders designed and led interactive workshops for every class from Kindergarten through 4th grade.

Stories That Spark Connection

The PALs kicked off their lessons with two beloved stories:

  • The Good Egg: A reminder that we don’t have to be perfect and that self-care is essential.
  • Ricky the Rock that Couldn't Roll: A heartwarming tale about how friends can work together to overcome obstacles.
  • It's Okay to be Different: Read to celebrate differences and build tolerance
  • What if Everyone Did That? Read to create empathy and encourage thoughtful choices

Following the readings, students engaged in thoughtful reflections on what makes them "one of a kind" and how they can support their classmates when things get "rocky."

Hands-On Empathy

To bring the lessons to life, the 5th graders organized creative activities that allowed students to express their unique personalities including:

  • The Rock Roll: Students decorated their own "Ricky" rocks and put them to the test on a custom ramp, cheering each other on as they rolled.
  • The Kindness Carton: Others chose to design vibrant eggs to be displayed together in a communal egg carton, symbolizing how our individual differences make our school community stronger.

We are so proud of our 5th grade leaders for their creativity, patience, and commitment to making Berry Hill a place where everyone belongs!
